How WBMB™ Works

Performers: Showcase your talents and stage presence in a 45-second cypher over Mobb Deep-inspired beats, followed by an original song.

Judged on Delivery Technique, Content Depth, Bar Structure, and Song Choice.

Producers: Curate a 5-minute cypher with a Mobb Deep-inspired sample and original beats that captivate the audience.

Judged on Sound Design, Arrangement, Sample Flip, and Live Adaptability.

All participants will be universally judged on Stage Presence, Crowd Engagement, Creativity & Originality, Professionalism, Artistic Impact.

Tone: The quality of your voice and how it complements the song. Is your voice clear, powerful, and expressive?

Adaptability: Your ability to seamlessly adjust to the beat’s tempo, mood, or unexpected changes.

Content Depth
(5 points)

This measures the originality and substance of your lyrics. Judges look for:

Meaningful Themes: Lyrics that resonate with the audience or convey a strong message.

Originality: Avoid clichés and show your unique perspective.

Emotional Connection: Can your words evoke feelings or create a lasting impression?

Bar Structure
(5 points)

This evaluates the complexity and creativity of your verses. Key factors include:

Cohesion: Do your lines flow smoothly, or do they feel disjointed?

Complexity: Incorporation of advanced rhyme schemes, wordplay, and metaphors.

Creativity: How unique and memorable are your bars?

Song Choice
(5 points)

This assesses how well your song captivates the audience and enhances your performance. Judges consider:

Effectiveness: Does your song leave a lasting impression or evoke strong audience reactions?

Connection: Does your song reflect your personal artistry and connect emotionally with the audience?

Memorability: Is your performance one that people will talk about after the event?

Transitions: Are sections of the track connected smoothly to maintain flow?

Balance: Are all elements (melody, bass, percussion) well-balanced and complementary?

Sample Flip

This evaluates your ability to creatively transform event-themed samples into unique and engaging beats. Judges evaluate:

Innovation: How inventive and original is your approach to flipping the sample?

Integration: Does the sample blend seamlessly into the beat or stand out in a meaningful way?

Impact: Does the sample enhance the overall energy and vibe of the cypher?

Live Adaptability

This assesses how well you can enhance the live cypher experience by adapting your beats in real-time. Judges evaluate:

Real-Time Adjustments: Can you dynamically modify your production to match the energy of the performers and audience?

Interaction: Does your production elevate the live performance, creating a seamless connection with the performers?

Versatility: Are you able to adapt your beats to unexpected changes or diverse performer styles?
